Creating Media Content for 40 Million New iPads
Jerry had to update the iPad figure from 21 million to 40 million based on new projections for industry analysts. That is, one year from the date of our meeting, analysts expect 40 million iPads literally in the hands of consumers. But the iPad is not radio or television or for that matter a website. How to Monetize the Mobile Internet
If so many consumers are flocking to apps, phones and websites, why is it still so hard to make money? WTOP is #2 in revenue nationwide although Washington is market #8. Farley achieved it in part due to skillful growth of digital and interactive programming. Lab members will work with Jim to invent the digital station of the future utilizing social networking, video, mobile platforms, streaming and hyperlocal news gathering.
Innovation Lab: Creating Content for the iPad
Facilitator: Lee Abrams, recently Tribune and XM Innovation Director
Lab members will work with Lee to create a new content format for the iPad. What to do with it. How radio and music people can take advantage of it and new ways to creatively make money from 40 million iPads in the hands of consumers.
Hyperlocal Media Lab: Designing Local News Sites
Facilitator: Chris Satullo, WHYY, Philadelphia, Executive Director of News and Civic Dialogue
Conjure up models for hyperlocal media sites as an adjunct to existing broadcast properties or as standalone new media businesses. Brainstorm with someone who has been there and is doing that.
